We left Evansville at 7AM. Only about 300 miles to do today. The weather turned very dark and with all the tornados in the mid-west this year, I got pretty nervous. ![]()
We had rain so bad that it reminded me of Florida afternoon downpours. We pulled over and stopped under a bridge until the worst of it passed.
Checked in to our hotel in Peoria. Found a store and stocked up on wine. There is a Irish pub is in the hotel parking lot so guess that is where we will eat tonight.

Today, we crossed the Mississippi, and drove all the way across Iowa. 475 miles!!!! It really wasn’t that bad Only took about 8 hours.
The scenery was beautiful. I was amazed by the windmills. There were miles and miles of them. Wind power must be very popular in Iowa.
We have checked in to our hotel. It is 99 outside at 5PM!!!!! Going across the street to a Chinese restaurant for dinner..and a stop at Walmart.

We left Sioux City at 6AM. As we left town, we could see where the Missouri River was already flooding. The city is expecting much worse by the end of the week. We entered South Dakota and headed towards Rapid City and Mt. Rushmore.
Today we are touring the Badlands. It was beautiful in a wild sort of way. It was very windy but at least it wasn’t hot.
Tonight we are staying in Wall….had to stop at Wall Drug….did not live up to the hype!
Tomorrow we are going to take a tour at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Charlie spent some time there while he was in the Air Force. Then it’s on to the first major part of the trip….
